Roads & Sidewalks

photo

Roseland is built for the residents, but cars are always welcome. To that end, we have designed our roads to accommodate our cars at slow speeds and designed our sidewalks and trails to carry the most important traffic, the people.

Tree-lined streets go a long way toward creating a pedestrian friendly streetcape. On-street parking also provides important separation between walkers and motorists. It also reduces the need for parking lots and the suburban feel that accompanies them.

Street widths will be wide enough to carry cars comfortably, but narrow enough to keep speeds down. The connected street grids of Roseland will share the traffic load and keep any one road from getting too many motorists.

Sidewalks are important connectors of places and people. Sidewalks will be built wide enough for two to walk side by side, adding to the amenity of walking. Intersections will be designed to clearly imply that walkers are the priority. All will be very accessible to those with physical challenges.

Sidewalks at the rural edge look much different than the sidewalks in Old Town and other commercial centers. Wider sidewalks give way to full plazas that are not only intended as pedestrian corridors, but meeting and socializing spaces as well. Street furniture will complete the message that the sidewalks of Roseland can actually be the destination.

Roseland brings back the joy of walking.
